HALLOWEEN!

The Third annual CLU Halloween Festival.

Friday evening, October 31st, starting at 6.00pm

We will have FREE pumpkin pie, a scary ballerina performance, Michael Jackson Impersonator Miki Kiss, a costume competition (wear yours and win a fabulous prize!), Jim Connolly’s haunting live music and most important, the opening and lighting up of Sean’s incredible light sculpture exhibit.

Much of last weekend went to installing Sean’s Light sculpture installation in the Kwan Fong Gallery at CLU. He makes fabulous dream-like sculptures from fabric and LED lights, that are simply beautiful. Here’s a shot of his new octopus piece.

CLU alum in the Star

There’s a nice story about art department alumni Rich Brimer in the Ventura  County Star. Rich is a frequent visitor to the campus and enjoys coming to our gallery opening receptions. He’s been involved in helping to promote the department on various occasions, and we think he’s awesome! Congratulations!

Gathering the Tribe 2

Our Art Department gathering was a great success this morning!

We ate delicious donuts and iced coffee while Adam and the Ants played in the gallery iPod. The faculty gave helpful information about upcoming events and answered the questions and concerns of the students.

Gathering the tribe

Monday 10 am. October 6th Kwan Fong Gallery

We are gathering the Art Department tribe together in the Kwan Fong Gallery. Meet your fellow tribesmen and women and eat and drink with them.

We will share important news about the department, invite your comments, enjoy each others company.

Aging Terry Tinley

Last week, Barry Burns challenged designers in his Art 380  Computer Graphics class to take digital self-portraits and make themselves appear 70 years old. Winner of the challenge was sophomore Terry Tinley who used his compositing skills in Photoshop to create the most convincing conversion from among the 20 students who gave it their best.

Gonna get my smiling face on the cover of the…

Barry Burns’ Art 385 Computer Graphic Design students were divided into four small advertising agencies and challenged to place a portrait of one of their designers on the cover of a famous magazine. Students were challenged to make the magazine cover as authentic as possible. The winning agency included president Sophia Naranjo, Nathanael Minoch, Leslie Gerard, Jessica Hueftle and Stephen Zierhut. Stephen was selected to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone. Art Department chair Michael Pearce was special guest judge. Michael felt the winning agency really captured the style and look of a Rolling Stone cover.
