Cindy-Cated: Join a Professional Organization

The sum of the members can make a greater difference than one individual.  Be part of that synergy by joining a professional organization.

Some of the benefits of joining a professional organization are:

1. Grow your network.

The opportunity of meeting with others in the profession exposes you to “best practices”, new ideas, provides you with being able to express your ideas to your peers and make friends with others who have the same interests.

2. Increase your knowledge.

Associations provide access to a huge amount of resources including but not limited to – case studies, articles, white papers and books written by experts in your field or area of interest. Also, major journal, magazine and newsletter access and continuing education is provided as a part of your membership privileges.

3. Broaden your career resources and opportunities.

Networking with other members often opens doors to job opportunities. Listing your association membership on your resume is impressive to current and future employers as it displays that you are dedicated to the profession and connected to others in the field.

4. Discounted student membership.

Many professional organizations provide discounted membership fees and many provide mentorships to students.

So, whether you want to grow your network, gain knowledge in the field, broaden your career resources and opportunities, find a mentor, or want to gain friendships with others who have similar interests, joining a professional organization is an excellent way to do so.

Some great professional organizations in the field of Financial Planning are ‘Financial Planning Association’, ‘Society of Financial Services Professionals’, and NAFPA.
