This exhibit, curated by prolific representational artist Hernán Miranda, features work by contemporary Paraguayan artists. The art varies in approach and imagery, and though several of the artists reside abroad, including in Germany, Argentina, France, and the United States, all the works were influenced by the artists’ mother-country: Paraguay. Media featured include works in oil, acrylic, charcoal, and graphite, and sculptures in bronze and glass.

Hernán explains, “Es una Convergencia de diferentes lenguajes, con sus individualidades que representan una parte de la pintura contemporánea del Paraguay,” (It is a Convergence of different languages, with their individualities that represent a part of the contemporary painting of Paraguay).

Artists include Gustavo Beckelmann, Osvaldo Camperchioli, Maite Casablanca, Esperanza Gill, Jorge Codas, Michael Oliver, Sila Estigarribia, Hernán Miranda, Roberto Morelli, Corina Paredes, Liliana Segovia, Félix Toranzos, Ing. Jorge Von Horoch, and Gabriel Brizuela.

Miranda was born in Concepción, Paraguay in 1960. He formerly taught painting at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Fine Arts School) of Paraguay. He developed his signature painting technique of depicting figures and still lifes by studying old masters’ use of chiaroscuro. His work has been featured in over 450 group shows and in galleries internationally, including in Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, France, Colombia, South Korea, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, and China, and extensively throughout the U.S.

This exhibition was created to coincide with the Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA Getty Initiative, which strives to highlight art and artists from Latin America.
