“Our shared humanity”
On View August 18 – September 22, 2007 Scenes from Communist countries will be on display. Vietnam, China, Laos, North Korea and Cuba are the last remaining bastions of Communist ideology. These photographs, which document the reality of living in these areas, will provoke strong reactions from visitors as they catch a glimpse of everyday life behind forbidden borders and without the influence of the corporate media. Photographer Brian Stethem, who teaches photography and art at CLU, provides a glimpse into the lives of ordinary folk in China through his images. Xiang Chen, a CLU philosophy professor and native of China, provides an insider’s view of Tibet. Morgan Alexander of Ojai documents murals and other features of Cuba in her photographs. Read More

Sculptures by John Storojev
On View September 28 – October 22, 2006 Opening Reception: September 28 at 7 p.m Asian-born, Russian-raised and U.S.-educated Storojev creates sculptural pieces that present a wide and intimate familiarity with different media as diverse and eclectic as his background. Side by side with stone figures are sculptures fashioned in metal, some of them in the form of majestic copper fountains which emit quieting sounds and billows of mysterious water vapor illuminated by colored lights. Bronze figures, busts in terra cotta and a large rust-colored metal “bug” round out some of the interesting sculptures created by this CLU sculpture instructor. Read More
