Private museums have seen a boom in recent years. In this lecture, Dr. Pallavi Narayan will comment on their emergence in Turkey and India. Private museums are a space for collectors to showcase their work in a curated display, and a platform for artists to push boundaries in the expression of art forms. Private museums shift a city’s identity while also unearthing local stories. Dr. Narayan will explain how these museums help in documenting shifts in a city’s identity, while also unearthing local stories and giving a nuanced perspective of local communities.
Dr. Pallavi Narayan lectures on art history, literature, writing and communication skills. Dr. Narayan has recently worked with a center for contemporary art in Singapore. A doctoral recipient from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, her academic writings explore museums as spaces for performativity, which she approaches through literary texts. She has considerable experience in book publishing, and has presented her work at numerous international conferences in connection with translation, migration, literature and writing.
