Print + Art Exhibition
PRINT+: Sameness and Otherness in Contemporary Printmedia October 6, 2023 – February 1, 2024 Open for Homecoming 2023  |  Saturday October 7, 12 – 7 PM Print+ focuses on the importance of showcasing artwork where diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion create an essential and fertile ecology. In this gathering, artists coming from diverse backgrounds and multiple intersectionalities present works of protest and resistance using one or more printing elements; the inks, the matrixes, the paper, the equipment, or the print. The resulting artwork can range from two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects to time-based videos and performances; from hospital gowns to quilts, from handkerchiefs to cotton; from folded paper to photographs. Each work tells a unique story as varied as the lives of the participating artists. Curated by Sheila Goloborotko, Print + initially showcased at the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, NJ. It subsequently journeyed to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Jacksonville, FL, where Goloborotko serves as an Associate Professor in Printmaking at the University of North Florida. California Lutheran University will be the concluding venue for this traveling exhibition. It is hosted in both the William Rolland Gallery of Fine Art and the Kwan Fong Gallery.  

Senior Art Exhibit 2023 | Intertwined
On view: April 22 – August 25, 2023 Opening Reception Saturday April 22nd 5:00pm – 6:30pm Artist Walkthrough Friday April 28th 2:00pm Intertwined is a unique collection of works dedicated to exploring how objects, ideas, and people are connected. This year’s graduating senior artists look into the relationships that exist in our everyday lives, those that manifest physically and those unseen. It’s an expression of ourselves as one and as a part of a whole that drives our creativity to immeasurable lengths. Through a variety of mediums, digital to physical, Intertwined investigates the complex dualities life presents to us. How are we moved by life’s connections and disconnections?  Chiemi Powell explores the numerous hidden implications of colors through a series of monochromatic oil paintings ranging from vast landscapes to surrealist portraiture. Originally raised in Santa Paula, California, Brandee Diaz focuses her art, both digital and physical, based on her loved ones and life experiences. Born and raised in Southern California, Jax is inspired by the endless possibilities of materials and mediums, as he channels his outlet of emotions and struggles of mental health into his practice. Sacred Residue, Exhibit by Brian Paumier & Vanessa Wallace-Gonzales
January 24 – March 25, 2023 Reception | February 10, 2023, 4:30 – 6:30 PM The William Rolland Gallery of Fine Art is honored to announce its current exhibition, Sacred Residue, featuring the works of Brian Paumier and Vanessa Wallace-Gonzales. This joint exhibition displays two artists delving into the depths of personal identity through their work. Their art, however, is not self-centered, rather their work reflects on the universal and communal connections that make up the individual. A combination of known and new works from each artist are exhibited, along with the unveiling of a new collaborative piece between Paumier and Wallace-Gonzales. The exhibit thematically pulls together symbolic visual fictions, based on personal truths, examining the fragments and fractures of life and considering the ways in which these elements are both a burden and a source for growth. Each artist works with various mediums, including painting, sculpture, and mixed media, and each work is an invitation for the viewer to consider the cultural fibers that inform this sacred life.  

Cole M. James: Call Them In
Call Them In is a collection of images and objects I offer to my ancestors. Works are grounded in expression of power, the personal, and the prison industrial complex. Created over the course of 10 years, these works form a non-linear timeline of experience and prayer.
