We conduct our field research in the village of Ananim, approximately 150 km east of Bel\u00e9m<\/a>, in Brazil. We work in approximately 800 ha of privately owned tropical rainforests at different levels of disturbance. \u00a0Because the area is not legally protected, conservation of the forest depends exclusively on the landowners, many of whom are residents in the village.<\/p>\n

Therefore, conservation and environmental education with the community are important parts of our work.<\/p>\n

While in Ananim, we live with our wonderful host family, whom\u00a0Dr. Stone\u00a0has known for over two decades.\u00a0 Edmilson, the dad, has been our field assistant (aka “monkey whisperer”) for many dedicated years! Nilda, our field mom, takes excellent care of us!<\/p>\n

In 2018, with the help of Cal Lutheran<\/span> <\/a>and our host family in Ananim, we established a small research facility to support our field work in the area. The new facility provides a dedicated lodging and equipment storage space for researchers and students.<\/p>\n
